When I looked at the prompt for today, I knew exactly what I wanted to share. The prompt is to share a video; it took just a search on Google and a link to the YouTube video to get it sorted. I have so much love for this video.
The first time I saw this video was in my Intro to Hospitality and Tourism class. We were discussing how a genuine smile to a guest can totally brighten and make their day. This then lead to the conversation that each person is different and that we have no idea how they're day has been. I thought about the time I talked with one of my guests just about something that was going on around town. We weren't very busy at the time and before she left with her ice cream she thanked me for being so kind and conversing with her when I had work to do; she told me that she had been having a really bad day and that a simple conversation (and some icecream) helped brighten her mood.
I mentioned in my post last week, Seven Things That Guests Do That Annoy Me, that I love all of my guests including the ones that get irrational upset over the smallest things. The way that I look at it, the guy who got upset because I made his milkshake too thin might have had a rough morning at the office. The kid who is throwing a tantrum might just be hungry or was woken up from a nap in the car. The older man might just be irritated with the kid behind him who keeps stomping his feet and in turns snaps at me when taking his order. The simplest or tiniest thing can set someone off if they're having a bad day, it's nothing against you as a human being. That's why I don't take these things too serious against me. I just dazzle them with a smile and do my best at making it right. Usually a smile and polite conversation is enough.
This is another reason that I love being in the hospitality industry. I want to make my guests feel at home. Okay, so right now I'm working in fast food, but I'm going to make sure that my guests enjoy their time starting from the moment I greet them until I bid them farewell. I love being the smiling face that greets guests and help them have a good time while they're out to enjoy ice cream or a burger with family and friends.
I care about my guests and I absolutely agree with this video: every life has a story. I want to make sure that I have a positive effect on my guests.

Great video! I think I saw a hospital do something similar and it was really cool. You're such a great fit for your field!
ReplyDeleteThis was the first time I had seen anything like it, and it definitely stuck in my head! Thank you, Emmy!
